The essentials

In padel, a racket is called a “power” racket when its shell and core are designed to return maximum energy at impact rather than absorb the ball. In practice, a power racket hits harder for the same swing: it is cut out for the smash, the attacking volley and the shots that aim to finish the point quickly, without necessarily going through long constructive rallies.

The three shapes

All three shapes fit in the same frame: it is the distribution of the material that moves the sweet spot, not the size of the racket.

  • Diamond

    The mass is concentrated at the top: the sweet spot moves up, the strike gets heavier and the margin for error shorter. The shape for attacking players.

  • Teardrop

    The top of a round, the bottom of a diamond: the sweet spot moves up a little without leaving the comfort zone. The compromise between the two.

    The sweet spot sits in the centre of the face, where the hand expects it. The most forgiving shape on off-centre hits, and the easiest to pick up.

    This profile particularly suits players who like to take the initiative in the point: baseline attackers who move up to the net fast, players hunting decisive smashes, or those who want to make up for a game that is more physical than technical with a shot that hurts.
