The essentials

A “control” padel racket favours precision of stroke and ball feel over raw hitting power. Its shell is generally a little softer, which very slightly lengthens the contact time between ball and face: the player feels the ball better and can place shots more accurately, gauge drop shots and vary spin.

The three shapes

All three shapes fit in the same frame: it is the distribution of the material that moves the sweet spot, not the size of the racket.

  • Diamond

    The mass is concentrated at the top: the sweet spot moves up, the strike gets heavier and the margin for error shorter. The shape for attacking players.

  • Teardrop

    The top of a round, the bottom of a diamond: the sweet spot moves up a little without leaving the comfort zone. The compromise between the two.

  • Round

    The sweet spot sits in the centre of the face, where the hand expects it. The most forgiving shape on off-centre hits, and the easiest to pick up.
