Padel rackets

Choosing a padel racket means first choosing a style of play. Before comparing materials or finishes, ask yourself the only question that really matters: do you want to end the point sooner, or keep the ball in play longer than your opponent?

Power or control

The answer shapes everything else, from the profile of the racket to the feeling it leaves in your arm after an hour of play.

A so-called "power" racket is built to return as much energy as possible at impact. It rewards attacking players: those who get to the net fast, who look for the smash and the decisive volley, and who accept a little less margin for error in exchange for a heavier strike. That is the territory of the power padel rackets collection.

A "control" racket makes the opposite bet: absorbing the ball more to lengthen contact time, and gaining precision on off-the-glass shots, bandejas and repositioning lobs. It is more forgiving on off-centre hits and suits players who build the point, as well as beginners who want to make their stroke reliable first. Shape, weight, balance

Three criteria then come up in every comparison on the market: the shape of the face, the weight and the balance. A high weight and a high balance add inertia, hence power, but ask more of the arm over the length of a match. The shape, for its part, is easier to see than to describe.

These pointers hold for every brand, and the best thing is still to test them racket in hand rather than on a spec sheet. In the SCUD range, they fit on two lines. Black Impact B3, White S3 and Mexique M1: diamond shape, head-heavy balance, 365 g — power and impact. Wood S1: teardrop, medium balance, 350 g — tolerance and manoeuvrability.

Carbon and foam

Then come the materials, and that is where the feel is decided. 12K woven carbon gives a slightly more progressive response; 18K, denser, returns the ball in a crisper, more direct way. The whole range is carbon, hand-sanded and produced in limited editions: the rest changes from one model to the next, and that is deliberate.

The foam at the heart of the face sets the balance between impact tolerance and energy return, and its density is not the same everywhere: Black Impact B3 and White S3 (EVA Hard Power), Wood S1 (Soft EVA) and Mexique M1 (Firm EVA). Before deciding between two rackets, compare their spec sheets — it is often the foam and the shape that separate two models with the same weave.

What a photo cannot show

The AVS anti-vibration system, which filters the jolts travelling up the arm, equips the whole range, as does the honeycomb silicone handle under the grip: two details no photo shows, but that you feel in the third set. Sanding, piece by piece

That leaves the surface. Our faces receive a hand-applied sanding, a rough finish applied piece by piece, which grips the ball and makes it easier to generate spin in the decisive rallies. It is also why no two rackets are perfectly identical. All our runs are produced in limited quantities, with no identical re-release: that is the principle of the limited editions collection.
